Two sailors searching for pearls are marooned on a south sea island when their crew mutinies. They discover a beautiful sarong-clad girl named Dea (Dorothy Lamour) who has been living there in isolation since she washed up on the shore after a storm ten years earlier. With the help of her chimp Coco, she has created a comfortable existence for herself, complete with a cozy tree house. Love blossoms as Dorothy sings "Palms of Paradise". But soon the cutthroat crew returns and the castaways must fight angry natives and the powerful forces of nature.
Set on a small island near Dutch Guinea, this film received a Best Special Effects academy award nomination for its spectacular forest fire, tidal wave, and climactic typhoon scenes.
