FLAME OF THE PACIFIC: A LEGEND OF PELE DVD FLAME OF THE PACIFIC: A LEGEND OF PELE DVD

#V015

“Adapted from the legends of Pele and produced in the Isles of Paradise, this tale is handed down through generations by the Polynesians”. So begins this 1934 tale of love and courtship in the South Seas, set amidst idyllic island scenes of daily life; a courtship that is interrupted by the intervention of Pele, fire goddess of the Kilauea volcano.
As an old woman, Pele is filled with evil desire for the handsome island chief and transforms herself into a beautiful young girl to seduce him. But the chief already has a sweetheart: the lovely Lani, who dances her sensuous “Hula of the Flower” for her beloved to the strains of the steel guitar. Not to be outdone by her rival, Pele dons a grass skirt to compete for the chief’s affection. When the chief chooses Lani, jealous Pele seeks revenge. (26 minutes)
Also includes the cartoon "BETTY BOOP’S BAMBOO ISLE": Betty and her pal Bimbo are shipwrecked on a tropical island where Bimbo is mistaken for a king. Includes a hula performance by The Royal Samoans, that Betty dances exactly the same later in the program. (8 minutes)
