In honor of the original Merrie Monarch, King David Kalakaua, the best halau are invited from across the Hawaiian Islands and the mainland U.S. to compete in the prestigious Merrie Monarch Festival. Dancers fortunate enough to perform at this annual event perpetuates an important cultural tradition in honor of Hawaii's ancestors.
Each year, thousands make the journey to Hilo, Hawaii to witness in person the magnificence of the dance and storytelling of hula. For others who long to be part of the passion and beauty, the festival has been captured on 3 DVDs. The Merrie Monarch Festival is an inspiring display of Hawaiian dance and culture to be thoroughly enjoyed over and over again.

Misses 3-piece Maori dance costume (Kapahaka Kotiro) features an authentic red, black and white design that includes New Zealand's national bird the Kiwi, surrounded by the Niho-Taniwha pattern (Dragon's Teeth) and Baskets of Knowledge.
The piupiu skirt (100% cotton) is made to imitate the genuine Maori flax skirt. It has an elastic waist with velcro closure to fit various sizes and the length can easily be cut to a shorter length if desired. The black polyester dress has a lined printed bodice in the front with bust darts for a nice fit, attached gathered underskirt, elastic shoulder straps, and two wide velcro closures in the back. The 1" wide printed cotton headband (tipare) has an elastic strip in the back to fit all sizes.
This costume is comfortable, easy-to-wear, and the velcro closures allow it to be adjusted to fit sizes a bit smaller or larger around than the measurements given. (Sizes below list the approximate measurements of the costume and they may vary slightly)
