Hura tapairu is a contest organized by Te Fare Tauhiti Nui resulting d' a simple report: many groups and d' schools of traditional dance cannot go on the mythical scene of To' ATA, for Heiva I Tahiti, for lack of a configuration adapted to their structure. The House of the Culture wished to answer this waiting while creating the " Hura Tapairu" who proposes with restricted groups a contest with a very great freedom in choreographies, the costumes, creation, the topic, the songs, etc an organization which makes it possible also unknown groups to create the surprise, and an ambition especially: excellence. Tapairu were indeed the young girls constituting the continuation of the queen. They were selected for their excellence in all the fields, in particular on the level of the artistic expression. In 2008, the groups could contribute in 5 categories: Hula, Ote' has, Aparima, Hura tapairu and Ori Tahito. 16 groups took part of December 2, 2008 in Hura Tapairu, some presenting several formations in various categories: With ori May, Ahutoru Harmed, Hei Tahiti, Hitireva, Ikaika, Manahau, Manava Tahiti, Nohoarii, Cultural Harmed Punaauia, Ra mana, Raivaihiti Bora Bora, Rurutu Tunoa, Te ao E dreamed, You Hura, Teva I tai & Te ui No Avoids Harmed. To safeguard the richnesses of Fenua and its ancestral know-how, such is the message of the spectacle "Mono' I" of Tamariki Poerani, put in scene by the choreographer Makau Foster-Delcuvellerie. Through the mono' I, Polynesian crowned oil, are transmitted and remain the ritual ones and traditions. Art of living of which only Polynesians have the secrecy, the mono' I accompanies their daily life since millenia. Tamariki Poerani pays very a nice homage to him through its spectacle.
