The 56th Annual Celebration of Hula

In honor of the original Merrie Monarch, King David Kalakaua, the best halau are invited from across the Hawaiian Islands and the mainland U.S. to compete in the prestigious Merrie Monarch Festival. Dancers fortunate enough to perform at this annual event perpetuates an important cultural tradition in honor of Hawaii's ancestors.

Each year, thousands make the journey to Hilo, Hawaii to witness in person the magnificence of the dance and storytelling of hula.
