| #V373D Known as the "Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele," Hawaiian native Jake Shimabukuro expands the instrument's traditional repertoire to include rock stylings that sound more like Eddie Van Halen than Don Ho. Shimabukuro continues to push the boundaries of the ukulele in his concert film MILLION MILES AWAY, which finds the virtuoso travelling from Hawaii to Tokyo to perform classical compositions with the Japanese Devil's Strings Quartet before returning home for a candlelit live performance of traditional Hawaiian ukulele music. Filmed on the 2004 RAINBOW tour, MILLION MILES AWAY also presents a selection of rehearsal takes, sound checks, and backstage footage for an intimate home-video-like atmosphere with artful black-and-white interludes.
