This lost technicolor film has never before been released on DVD or video and is one of the most sought-after titles by collectors and Hawaiian film buffs.

[1951 - Louis Jourdan, Debra Paget, Jeff Chandler, Prince Lei Lani - Technicolor - 118 minutes]  A 19th century Polynesian chief's son returns home with a civilization-weary French college friend. The Frenchman falls in love and marries the chief's daughter Kalua against the wishes of the local kahuna, and soon she must be sacrificed to the erupting volcano. 

Beautifully filmed on location in various sites throughout Hawaii, Oahu and Kauai including the Shipman Estate in Puna, the black sand beaches of Kaimua and Kalapana, the City of Refuge, Waikiki, Hanalei Bay and Coco Palms, plus actual footage from the 1950 Mauna Loa volcano eruption. This movie featured over 200 local Hawaiians, authentic hula choreography by the legendary Iolani Luahine, natives chants by Mama Bray, hula dancing by Mary Ann Ventura and numerous locals, classic scenes of surfing, canoeing and firewalking, and of course the classic hula number "The Love song of Kalua" danced by Debra Paget.   Also included is a  Betty Boop cartoon and the original theatrical trailer.

These two classic South Sea films feature beautiful "sarong girl" Dorothy Lamour, who made the sarong an international fashion statement. This double feature also includes a vintage cartoon and movie trailers.  

"Aloma of the South Seas" [1941 - Dorothy Lamour - Jon Hall - Technicolor - 77 minutes]  Two Polynesian children are betrothed by their island chief fathers, but grow apart when the boy is sent abroad to school.  He is much changed when he returns home after his father's death years later.  He eventually realizes he still loves the girl, but her jealous boyfriend tries to take over the island and then the volcano erupts.  This movie features great scenes of classic luaus, giant Moai style statues, tropical locals, and music by the legendary Augie Goupil & his Royal Tahitians. It received Academy Award nominations for color cinematography, special effects, and sound recording.  

"Beyond the Blue Horizon" [ 1942 - Dorothy Lamour, Richard Denning, Jack Haley - 73 minutes ]  A woman who has been stranded on an isolated island when her parents were killed by rampaging elephants is rescued and brought back to San Francisco to claim her inheritance. When questions are raised about her authenticity she leads a safari back to the island.

"Jungle Princess" [1936 - Dorothy Lamour - Ray Milland - Mala - Black & White]  A big game hunter (Ray Milland) is in Malaysia with his fiancee and her father, capturing wild animals. While out hunting, he is attacked by a tiger and his native guides run away, leaving him for dead. But the tiger is the pet of Ulah (Dorothy Lamour), a beautiful young woman who grew up by herself in the jungle. With the help of her pet chimp, she rescues the hunter and takes him back to her cave where she nurses him to health and falls in love with him.  (85 minutes)

"Her Jungle Love" [1938 - Dorothy Lamour - Ray Milland - Technicolor]  Sarong-clad Dorothy Lamour made her Technicolor debut in this follow-up to her earlier movie "Jungle Princess". After crash-landing on a tropic island, an aviator named Bob and his mechanic Jimmy make the acquaintance of the lovely Tura (Lamour). While Bob enthusiastically teaches Tura how to kiss, Jimmy tangles with comic-relief chimpanzee Gaga and playful tiger cub Meewa. The villain of the piece is megalomanic witch doctor who hypnotizes Tura into assisting him with his human sacrifices to the crocodile god. Just as Bob, Jimmy and Tura are about to meet their doom at the hands of the witch doctor, a timely volcanic eruption saves the day.  (81 minutes)

South of Tahiti  [1941 - Maria Montez, Broderick Crawford, Andy Devine, Brian Donlevy, Armida - black & white - 73 minutes]  An airplane crashes on an uncharted pacific Island, south of Tahiti.  Three men survive, and one falls in love with a beautiful native girl.  She is the daughter of the tribe's leader and may inherit the throne after the tragic death of her brother. Filled with island girls in skimpy sarongs and includes an exotic fan dance.  

The Tuttles of Tahiti  [1942 - Jon Hall, Charles Laughton, Mala, Peggy Drake - black & white - 91 minutes]  The Tuttles, a partially native family, are plagued by an aversion to work, but that doesn't stop them from practicing an "eat, drink and be merry" attitude.  To finance their lifestyle they borrow with no thought of their increasing debt.  As part of an ongoing rivalry with another family, the Tuttles bet everything they have on an ill-fated cockfight.

"White Savage" [1943 - Maria Montez - Jon Hall - Sabu - Sidney Toler - Turhan Bey - Technicolor]  Far away in the enchanted fantasy South Seas (where only Hollywood could find it) is the idyllic Temple Island, ruled by the beautiful Princess Tahia.  Romance ensues between a shark fisherman (Hall) and the Princess, but she believes he is only looking for a way to steal the golden treasure located at the bottom of the temple's sacred pool, and she banishes him.  Meanwhile crooked traders are conspiring to get the treasure and the temple's god is angered.  The fisherman tries to escape from his prison with the help of the comedic, but heroic temple boy (Sabu). Includes exotic stylized drum dancing, lots of sarong-clad girls and great earthquake scenes.  (67 minutes)


"Cobra Woman" [1944 - Maria Montez - Jon Hall - Sabu - Lon Chaney Jr. - Technicolor]   On the eve of her wedding to Ramu (Hall), the beautiful Tollea (Montez) is spirited away from her tranquil South Sea island to the mysterious, forbidden place of her birth, Cobra Island. Ramu follows with his young-but-not-too-bright friend Kado (Sabu) and their chimp Coco.  Tollea has an evil twin (also played by Montez) who has taken control of the island and must be deposed. This deliciously campy film features pits of snakes, incredible costumes, exotic snake dances and erupting volcanoes.  (77 minutes)

On the Isle of Samoa  [1950 - Jon Hall, Susan Cabot, Al Kikume, Raymond Greenleaf - black & white - 72 minutes] Fleeing from police with stolen cash and a stolen plane, an ex-flyer crashes on an uncharted Samoan island, where he is befriended by a selfless missionary. He is obsessed with returning to civilization, even though the beautiful sarong-clad island princess, Moana is in love with him. Includes native dancing and a volcanic eruption.

South of Pago Pago [1940 - Frances Farmer, Jon Hall, Ray Mala - black & white - 97 minutes] A cut-throat gang accompanies a blonde hostess to an uncharted island to steal pearls. The chief's son forsakes his betrothed for the haole hostess, who pretends to love him. Includes background shots of the Kona Coast and the Kalapana black sand beaches, Hawaiian and Tahitian dancing, as well as Hawaiian musicians Sam Koki and Lani McIntire.

When money-hungry prospectors seek to pillage Bora Bora's black pearl beds, the young boy has no choice but to unleash the fury of his bloodthirsty pet on those who seek to destroy his homeland.  Beautifully filmed on the island of Bora Bora with breathtaking underwater scenes and topless (but tasteful) Tahitian dancers.

Tiko and the Shark  [1963 - Al Kauwe, Marlene Among - sepia-toned - 107 minutes]  Filmed in French Polynesia with a Hawaiian cast, the story revolves around the adventures and romances of a young Polynesian boy as he grows up.  As a child he raises and trains a baby shark as a pet, which he shares with his island playmate Diana.  After a decade the three are reunited, but the world has changed: Tiko and Diana have become adults; the shark has become a dangerous man-eater; and civilization has encroached on the tropical island.
