Tumata, one of the leaders of Tahiti's most creative and popular dance troupe Les Grand Ballets de Tahiti, teaches basic through advanced steps of Tahitian dance (Ori Tahiti), both Otea (a vivacious rapid style danced to Tahitian log drum rhythms) and Aparima (a story that is danced to a song with each hand gesture having a specific meaning).  Each lesson begins with the basic step and hip movement and continues with arm gestures, variations, practice, and then a performance of the steps just learned to a song from one of Le Grands Ballets de Tahiti's Cds.  The lessons include the steps tamau, ami, afata, te'i, fa'arapu, pa'ipa'i, ha'amenemene, varu, fa'atere, and hui.  (64 minutes)

ORI I – Mahea Uchiyama teaches and performs authentic Tahitian dance in a studio setting with mirrors. Learn the history of Ori (with vintage photos and drawings), the fundamentals of various types of Tahitian dance, and the costumes used for each. Then learn numerous hip isolations, steps, postures, arm positions, hand gestures, and a complete otea choreography. All movements are clearly demonstrated from various angles and discussed thoroughly.

ORI II – Picks up where "Ori I" left off. After a brief review of basic steps (tarava tamo, fa'arapu, and ori tu'i) she moves on to more advanced steps and combinations including varu, ori va'u, fa'amenemene, hura, and nu'u. Each move is thoroughly explained, broken down, and demonstrated. These dvds were copied from the original semi-professional/homemade tapes that were filmed some years ago, so the sound and visual quality are not as good as expected on today's dvds.  Charmaine is not a Kumu Hula, but the material she presents is authentic and performed to the best of her ability.  The numerous dance routines can be adapted to your own style and song version.

Filmed in Tahiti with Tumata and Les Grands Ballets de TahitiSonia explains and demonstrates the fundamentals of Polynesian dance and how they can be incorporated into Bellydance.  She begins with a warmup; then teaches each Polynesian and Bellydance movement in a mirror so you can see her from the front and back at the same time including: Maya, Tamau/Hip Swing, Hip Bumps, Tuck-Pop, Piston Hips/Lock Down, Shimmy/Vibration, Fa'arapu, Ami, and Fa'atere; then she combines the various movements into segments to make a complete choreography.  At the end there is a cool down and two complete Bellynesian performances of the choreography learned. (48 minutes)
