[1936 - black&white - 233 minutes]  Ray Mala is "all hero" in the 14-chapter Republic serial Robinson Crusoe of Clipper Island. The star plays a character also named Mala, a Polynesian native and U.S. Intelligence agent. Mala is dispatched to Clipper Island to prove that the huge dirigible San Francisco was destroyed by saboteurs (the destruction of the big blimp is culled from library footage of the Hindenburg disaster). Accompanied by his faithful dog Buck and human assistant Hank (William Newell), Mala discovers that a nest of enemy spies are operating on the island, with the electronic technology to control volcanic eruptions and keep the natives in thrall. Convincing the lovely Princess Melani (Mamo Clark) that he's one of the good guys, Mala manages not only to thwart the spies, but to also prevent a takeover by despotic high priest Porotu (John Piccori).

[1955 - Virginia Mayo, Dennis Morgan, David Farrar - color - 86 minutes]  A beautiful, but phony missionary in cahoots with thieves, introduces the unsuspecting natives of an uncharted Pacific island to the evils of civilization and alcohol so they can steal a fortune in black pearls from them. But the pearls are in an underwater shrine guarded by a giant octopus and the natives are starting to get suspicious; a sacrifice may be needed! Lots of sarong-clad wahines, huge Marquesan and Hawaiian style stone tikis, stone temples, and native sacrificial rituals.

A lonely Easter Island stone Moai Tiki gets bored with his endless days of cleaning statues, doing petroglyph crossword puzzles, and drinking beer. So he hitches a ride on a jet and travels to the modern world in search of a mate. At the "Ancient Art Mart" (filled with fantastic Polynesian works of art and Tikis) he finds the love of his life. But alas, this is no place to be worshipped! This wordless, short comedy was filmed on Easter Island by Jeff Berry (of Beachbum Berry's Grog Log). Winner of several prestigious film awards.
