Born in Tahiti, Gaston Guilbert traveled extensively during his youth in Europe and the U.S. When he returned to Tahiti he founded Tahiti Films, one of the first film production companies in the islands. These black/white and color short films were recorded from the late 1940s through the mid 1960s and consist of scenic island sights, daily life, sarong clad vahine, canoeing, short fiction, drumming, and dance numbers. Each film starts with a short introduction in French. Films include: Rey Sisters Scopitone, Tara an Everyday Venture, Drums of Bora Bora, Moorea a Vespa, South Sea Magic, Happy Islanders, Moemoea, Le Peintre et Son Modele, Lac Temae, Happy Return, Hi Ho Cowboys, Tahiti in Blossom, Te Vahine Tahiti, Peche au Posion, Bounty, Peche Aux Varos, Maupiti, Motu Ino, Reef and Lagoon.
