| #346D Hawaii's keiki enter this world on the beat of the ipu drum and the sweet chords of the ukulele. By the time they can walk, many are already training with aunties, uncles, and tutu to become graceful and powerful hula dancers - talented boys and girls ages 6-12 preserving an ancient cultural lineage. Now in its 29th year, the Queen Lili'uokalani Keiki Hula Competition draws the most talented of these young dancers for this 3-day expression of Hawaiian dance and chant. Representing 24 halau from all over the islands and as far away as Japan, these children will awe you with their heart-stopping kahiko (ancient hula) and the fluid movements of contemporary auana (modern hula). Awards are given for both girls and boys in group and solo performances. Here are the winners, outstanding performances, and memorable highlights professionally produced by KITV. (90 minutes)
